The National Flood Aftermath Clean-Up Exercise ended in the Volta Region with the evacuation of a total of 200 tonnes of solid waste from towns and communities.
In the Ho Municipality, the clean-up was capped with the planting of various ornamental trees along the Ho-Sokode dual carriage road.
Waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, supported the exercise vigorously by deploying 18 skip trucks, 30 rubbish containers, polybags, seven tricycle pick-ups, and 100 workers at vantage points to execute the task.
The company also carried out disinfestation activities in Keta, Anloga, and Sogakope, which were among the areas most affected by the floods, and supplied clean-up participants with personal protective equipment.
Briefing the Daily Graphic in Ho on July 12, the Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emmanuel Amemakalor, said public turnout for the exercise was overwhelming. He said gutters were desilted thoroughly in the urban centres, while canoes were mobilised for the clean-up in certain parts of the southern Volta Region.
Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation, the security agencies, individuals, and voluntary organisations took part actively in the exercise.
In Kpando, the Municipal Chief Executive, Kilian Donkor, described the outcome of the exercise as a huge success befitting the area's status as a modern municipality and gave an assurance that the exercise would be sustained.
