14 Suspected criminals arrested in Kumasi

The police have arrested 14 suspected criminals in a special operation conducted in a number of suburbs in the Kumasi metropolis.

The suspects include Emmanuel Osei, 23, who the police described as a notorious car snatcher, and his girlfriend, Adams Ikima, at Tafo Pankrono.

Osei is reported to have snatched at least 10 cars so far, and had been on the police wanted list for sometime. He reportedly uses his girlfriend, Ikima, 19, as a decoy to outwit his victims.

The other suspects include Maxwell Antwi, alias Shedabodam, 23, Vincent Opoku, alias Acostic, 22, Malam Issifu Abdulai, 41, Kwadwo Acquah, 23, Issifu Issah, 30, and  another suspect identified only as Alhassan, 21, who allegedly attack Metro Mass Transit buses to rob passengers of their wares.

The rest are Ibrahim Alhassan, Kwame Sekyere, Kwaku Poku, Nicholas Adu Gyamfi and Eric Opoku.

At a press briefing in Kumasi yesterday, Superintendent of Police, Mr Wisdom Lavoe, said the police conducted a synchronised operation at Suame, Tafo-Pankrono, Asokwa and South Suntreso.

According to him, the 14th suspect, Aliu Haruna, was arrested while purchasing ammunition to go to Tamale.

He explained that Haruna was arrested on suspicion that the ammunition would be used to fuel the conflict in Tamale.

He said five other suspects, Maxwell Yakubu, also known as NDC, and others identified only as Zack, 55, Raul, Red and IT, had been declared wanted.
