Valley View University receives International Recognition

He noted that already, there had been an increment of about 58 per cent in student enrolment at the Oyibi Campus of the university, adding that plans were advanced for the introduction of undergraduate programmes in statistics, mathematics and actuarial science with economics in January 2013.

The university is further planning to introduce a Bachelor of Science programme in environmental studies, he further said.

The vice chancellor urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the university and exhibit all the good values the university had instilled in them.

“We are convinced you are well bred enough to perform creditably in any sector of the economy your skills could place you,” he said. 

In his address, the Special Guest Speaker, Pastor Dr Ted N.C. Wilson, President of the World Seventh-day Adventist church, urged the graduates to seek the pinnacle of success, which according to him, is modelled in the life of Christ Jesus.

“…Success is dependent on your connection with Christ which results in humble service of love to others,” said Pastor Wilson.

He added “Whether you get mentioned publicly or not, give loving service to others in your profession and life, and through God’s power, He will make you a true success.”

Pastor Wilson expressed the sympathy of the world Seventh-day Adventist church to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent collapse of the Melcom store in Accra. He also prayed for peace and stability to reign in Ghana as the nation prepared to go to the polls next month.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, congratulated the university on being a pacesetter and for its affiliations to highly ranked and respectable universities worldwide.

The minister commended the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the proprietor of Valley View University for its contribution to the provision of quality education in Ghana.

“I would like to commend the university authorities and management for complimenting government’s efforts in ensuring that quality education is made accessible to our people,” Mr Afotey-Agbo said..

The Valecdictorian, Miss Becky-Anne Buabeng, thanked the faculty and staff of the university for their contributions in diverse ways towards her success.

Miss Buabeng encouraged her colleagues to have hope for the future and cast away all anxieties as they move on to a different stage of their lives.

“As we begin our journey into the real world, let us know that this school has empowered us with what it takes to face the challenges of the world and this life; that is the fear of the lord, integrity of character and service to humility,” Buabeng said.

Thirty–nine out of the total number of graduating student graduated with first class honours, majority of whom were females.

The graduates were from both the Oyibi and Techiman campuses of the university and hail from 12 African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, La Cote d’Ivoire, Benin and Burkina Faso.
