The presentation was made during a Governing council meeting at the university.

Briefing the media after the presentation, the Media Relations Officer of UPSA, Mr James Afedo, explained that it was the desire of the chancellor to “continue to support and be personally involved in the development of this centre.”

He said Drolor Adamtey was confident that UPSA would be the education hub for strategic leadership training and would produce a new generation of globally-minded leaders for the country and the rest of Africa.

Scholarship

Mr Afedo added that the chancellor also announced the setting up of a scholarship scheme for 10 brilliant, needy students to pursue higher education at UPSA annually.

“Nine out of the 10 scholarships will be awarded to students from the Se Traditional Area and a floating one for the most brilliant student from the wider Ga-Dangme area,” he revealed, adding that Drolor Adamtey believed it would create more opportunities for the young people in that area to experience quality education at a prestigious university such as the UPSA.

Commendation

He said the chancellor commended the management of UPSA, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Alabi, for their commitment and dedication towards the development of the university.

The Council Chairman, Mr Justice Nii Aryeetey, thanked the chancellor for establishing the centre and endowing it with such a significant amount as seed money.

He promised the commitment of the Governing Council to support the chancellor to raise the university to the next level of global recognition and relevance.

Assurance

Regarding the scholarship scheme, the council chairman assured the chancellor that management would work out the modalities for it to become operational in the 2014/2015 academic year, starting September 2014. He also assured the chancellor of the council’s continuous commitment towards fulfilling the vision and mission of the university.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Alabi, also took the opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to the chancellor and pledged the commitment of management to ensure that the university consolidated the gains made so far and to continue to work towards the transformation of UPSA into a world-class university.
