UDS inducts fourth vice chancellor
The newly-inducted Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, has called for cooperation from all staff and stakeholders to bring his vision for the university to fruition.

Until his appointment as the fourth VC, Prof. Teye whose appointment took effect on October 1, 2015, was the Pro VC of the university and was inducted into office by the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Prof. Stephen B. Kandie, at an impressive investiture and induction ceremony at the central administration of the university in Tamale.
He succeeded Prof. Haruna Yakubu who served as the VC of the university from 2010 to 2015.
New VC’s Vision
Prof. Teye in his address said he would build on the legacies of his predecessors to make the university more attractive to the public as a centre of excellence.
He said he would also embark on massive infrastructural development to enable the university to admit more students.
Prof. Teye said he would introduce an annual awards to encourage staff of the university to give off their best with the maiden awards ceremony scheduled for December, this year.
He said he would also introduce the collegiate system of management as part of measures to ensure effective governing systems, explaining that the idea was to ensure the devolution of some areas of administration to allow efficiency in the delivery of services. Prof. Kandie implored the new VC to be firm and fair in his decisions and be opened to advice.
Appeal to government
The immediate past Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof. Haruna Yakubu, appealed to the government to lift the ban on the employment of staff for public tertiary institutions in the country.
According to him, many public tertiary institutions were understaffed, thus the need to employ new staff to augment the staff strength to enable them train the requisite human resource for the country.
Building on foundations
Prof. Yakubu urged his successor to build on the foundations he and other predecessors had laid to make the university a centre of excellence in the country and beyond.
He further implored the new VC to continue the university's African Leadership Lectures Series (ALLS) as part of efforts to enhance the global image of the school.
Among the dignitaries who witnessed the ceremony were the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Prof J.S.Y. Kuma and Prof. D. D. Koopole respectively.
