The four laptops, in addition to three others from the school administration, were presented as awards to five students of the school who excelled in the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the students who represented the school in the National Maths and Science Quiz (NMSQ).

Of the five students who excelled in the 2017 WASSCE, two had participated in the NMSQ.

Awardees

The seven who were rewarded with the laptops were Douglas Kwame Agyei, Reuben Kofi Senyor Agogoe, Emmanuel Antwi Adjei, Christopher Anamalia Anyinloya, Bright Asiedu Nimo, James Nana Safo and Collins Twum.

Addressing the students at the presentation ceremony in Accra, an executive member of the 1978 Year Group, Mr Emmanuel Osei Akuamoah, advised them to endeavour to be successful in future.

“Students of the school should take advantage of the resources that are here, study and make sure you pass with distinction.

There are several opportunities that are here and you need to work very hard, have your aim and make sure you continue to hit your target,” he said.

Mr Akuamoah urged the old students to form year groups to enable them to network and be able to give back to the school through their association.

According to him, the 1978 Year Group would celebrate its 40th anniversary next year and the presentation was to give something back to the school.
“We will be celebrating our 40th anniversary next year and to kick-start the process, we realised that we need to do something, especially for the students who represented the school in the NMSQ.

We decided to present laptops to them as a prelude to the anniversary,” he said.

Mr Akuamoah said the year group was planning to rehabilitate the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Centre of the school.

“Aquinas has made us what we are and we have decided to give back to the school that has made us what we are today,” he added.

An Assistant Headmaster of the school, Rev. Fr Benjamin Ohene, speaking on behalf of the Headmaster, Mr Cyril K. Daddey, said the school deemed it necessary to honour the students who performed well in their academic pursuits.

“It has been the headmaster’s promise to honour students who have eight As in WASSCE. The students were rewarded with laptops because we believe they will enhance the students’ education. The idea is to appreciate and motivate them to study harder as they move on,” he said.

Appreciation

One of the students who represented the school in the NMSQ, Bright Asiedu Nimo, on behalf of the awardees, expressed gratitude to the year groups and the school administration for their kind gesture.
