The students returned home with six trophies, 10 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 20 bronze medals after competing with over 10 schools from across the world.

They competed on three categories namely the OWLINS, which is for children between the ages of nine and 11; the OWLETS, which is for children between the ages 12 and 14 and OWLYS, which is for children between the ages of 15 and 18.

The Owlypia is an intellectual competition based in the United Kingdom, which is aimed at inspiring intellectual curiosity in every young mind while giving them the chance to grow and develop as individuals in every capacity.

Journey

A Career Counsellor at the school who led the contestants to the competition, Farouk Suraj, told the Daily Graphic that the journey to the USA began when the school competed with other schools at the local level in May, where they qualified and had the opportunity to represent the country on the global stage.

He said the students, during their stay in the USA, participated in three different categories, which are “the impromptu challenge, speechcraft challenge and the pen-down challenge.

“The impromptu challenge is where a student gets on stage and is given a topic to think about for a minute and share his or her thoughts on while the speech craft also has to do with public speaking.

In the pen-down challenge, the students are challenged to be creative with their writing to tell a story, and in all, our students did exceptionally well,” he told the Daily Graphic.

Mr Suraj said the win was one out of many awards that the school had won on the global level and that there were even more to come.

“We are proud of the students and this is not the end.

There are a lot more to come,” he said.

Sharing her experience at the Owlypia Intellectuals’ Challenge, a student, Lordina Obeng, said it was a fun and educative experience for her and an opportunity to interact with students from other countries.
