Registration for BECE resit starts today

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has opened registration for private candidates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The move will allow BECE candidates, who could not pass their exams the first time around, have another go at the exams to get into Senior High School.

The registration process, which will be done online and ends on October 29, is open to people who have previously sat for exams.

Resitters will be required to provide their index numbers and the year they wrote the previous BECE, while a person writing for the first time must be 18 years and above.

Students in Junior High School (JHS) are not qualified to register for the examination.

The examination will be conducted from February 16 to 20, 2015 and the timetable will be made available online when it is ready. The results are expected to be released in May 2015.

In July the WAEC released the guidelines for resit of the BECE.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) revealed in June that only about 60 percent of students who write the BECE make it into Senior High Schools.
