The Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) has launched its 85th anniversary with a call on all stakeholders to collectively support the institution to attain its highest potential.

The Head Pastor of Living Streams International, Rev. Dr Ebenezer Markwei, who made the call, explained that even though the institution was noted for its excellence in education and other sectors, it was important to explore other horizons to build on what had already been achieved.

He stated that this could be done by identifying challenges faced by the school and providing sustainable solutions to them as a way of moving forward 85 years after its inception.

“So, let us use this as a perfect opportunity to foster a lifelong learning culture that will create something which is better and glorious than what the school already has,” he added.

He said this in a keynote speech at the launch of the anniversary in Accra last Monday.

Anniversary

The anniversary is on the theme: “Building upon a legacy of excellence: Come along with us.”

The year-long celebration will include activities such as a presidential ball, bonfire night, grand durbar, reunion, and a technology and science fair, among other activities.

The event was also used to unveil the logo for the anniversary for which the lucky artist, Micheal Yirenkyi, was presented with a cash prize of GH¢5,000.

Fruitful journey

The Headmaster of PRESEC, David Odjidja, expressed excitement as he explained that it was time for a year-long mega celebration of the continuous existence of the school after a fruitful journey and counting.

“At a milestone of 85, I believe the school is getting stronger and stronger by the day and all we can do is to build upon it to make the school not just the best in the country but on the continent,” he said.

He stated that with the current number of over 5,000 students, the school was thriving and continually impacting the lives of the students positively to contribute to the development of the country.

Contribution

While recounting memories of his school days, the former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, said he was proud of the achievement of the school, which had continued what the predecessors started.

In a speech read on his behalf by his son, Mike Oquaye Jnr, Prof. Oquaye revealed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had been recruited as an old boy due to the fact that he had his secondary education abroad.

He admonished the students to ground themselves in the values of the school to become good citizens and contribute to the development of the nation and the world as a whole.

The Global President and Board Chairperson of PRESEC, Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, stated that over the past years, the school had made significant strides to make it the best in the country.
