The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, has urged students in Presbyterian Schools in the country to keep up with the moral of cleanliness instilled in them during a year-long campaign launched by the church.

“The Presbyterian Church’s national cleanliness campaign is hinged on an understanding of the environmental witness of the Church which calls on all Christians to be stewards of our natural resources,” he stated.

At an award ceremony to mark the end of the campaign, he further urged Ghanaians to keep on with the planting of trees to replace cut down trees as the preservation and protection of the environment was an obligation to the citizenry.

Prof. Obiri Mante also called on students to practise what he called, the three “Rs” (Reuse, Recycle and Reduce) as part of efforts at preserving the eco-system and congratulated the participating students in the quiz and ecological integrity campaign.

“We are here to celebrate the schools that have shown the most sustainable strides in keeping their environment clean and providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

“I am impressed by the dexterity and prowess shown by our children in their quiz, the musical piece and other activities such as the upcycling workshop,” he stated.

Under the Ecological Integrity Campaign, five schools out of the 16 schools were awarded for keeping their schools community clean.

The assessment team selected the five schools per their routine and visits to all the 16 schools.

A quiz competition was also organised among eight basic Presbyterian Schools under a wide range of topics concerning the preservation of the environment.

At the end of the quiz competition, La Nativity Presbyterian Primary School emerged as winners.

A representative from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resource, Ms Charlotte Adjei –Marfo, also congratulated the winning schools.

She urged them to be propagators of the good news and ambassadors of cleanliness in their various communities as the church and the school had given them a great virtue that they should not depart from .

“You have been equipped with the greatest virtue, be propagators of the Gospel and do not let it depart from you, as you grow, keep on being clean and teach others to do same”, she said.
