It will be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2017.

The project is being undertaken as part of a social investments drive embarked upon by Yinson Production West Africa Limited, an indigenous oil and gas service company. It will replace the current assembly hall.

The facility will be equipped with modern audio-visual equipment, an overhead projector and a 30KVA stand-by power generator and is designed to be “disable friendly”.

To ensure that the facility is well maintained, it will be run on commercial basis in order to channel revenue accruing from its use into a maintenance fund.

Collaborations

In his address at a sod-cutting ceremony for the start of the project, the Minister of Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, commended the company and other oil and gas companies for collaborating with the district assemblies to execute development projects in communities within the Western Region.

“The current infrastructure will ensure that the school carries out its functions in a conducive atmosphere for the progress of academic work,” he said.

In a speech read on behalf of the Country Manager of Yinson Production West Africa, Mr  Lars Eik, the Finance Manager, Mr Anthony Attu, noted that the company was focussed on investing in areas that directly impact and positively affect the lives of beneficiaries.

As part of other social investment initiatives ongoing, he said the construction of a new workshop at the Takoradi Technical Institute was about 75 per cent complete, adding; “We expect that it will be completed in October this year – which is a key component of the oil and gas capacity building programme led by the Ministry of Petroleum and the World Bank.”

Mr Attu said Yinson had supported several social investment projects and was currently collaborating with its local JV partner, Oil and Marine Agencies (OMA), to refurbish five primary schools in Tema in the Greater Accra Region.

Opportunities

“We will commence oil and gas production in mid-2017 – less than a year from now. We will recruit and employ as many competent and qualified Ghanaians for work on board the FPSO during the operation phase,” he added.

The school authorities commended the company for choosing their school and promised to maintain the facility upon completion.
