Kumasi Poly tops assessment for technical varsity

The Ministry of Education has released the scores the Professor Adimado Expert Panel of offered the 10 polytechnics in the country after their independent expert assessment based on a 16-point criterion.

The panel scored the Kumasi Polytechnic 14 points, the Accra Polytechnic and the Koforidua Polytechnic 13 points each, Sunyani

Polytechnic, Takoradi Polytechnic and Ho Polytechnic 12 each, Tamale Polytechnic 11, Cape Coast Polytechnic 10, Bolgatanga Polytechnic nine and Wa Polytechnic eight.

A statement released from the Public Relations Unit of the ministry said the first six polytechnics met the criteria for conversion under the phase one of a project to turn the polytechnics into technical universities, while the remaining four were yet to be converted.

“After a thorough review with the Expert Panel, the National Council for Tertiary Education and the Ministry of Education, a decision was taken to convert in two phases and not three,” it said.

The statement said the government had given an assurance, as stated by President John Mahama during his State of the Nation Address, that the remaining four would be assisted to meet the conversion requirements within the shortest possible time.
