The school was established in 1964 and operated as two separate schools - The School of Nursing and the School of Midwifery, under different principals until 2008 when it was merged.

At a short ceremony in Koforidua, the Principal of the college, Mrs Doreen Osae-Ayensu, appealed to the committee members to outline programmes that would be beneficial to the school and the whole of the healthcare delivery system in the country.

She said 50 years in the life of any institution was no mean an achievement and that the school had turned out a lot of great and successful nurses and midwives, therefore, had every cause to celebrate.

Reverend Paul Dekyem, the Koforidua District Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), who inaugurated the committee, urged them to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Committee Chairman

The Chairman of the committee, Mr Ebenezer Aboagye Akuffo, who spoke on behalf of the members, said 50 years was a milestone worth celebrating and expressed the hope to plan activities that would benefit the school.

He said the committee, in consultation with the school administration, had decided to use the celebration to raise funds for the construction of a boy’s hostel for male trainee nurses, and called for the support of all, especially old students.

Other members of the committee, include Mrs Phyllis Abrah, Mrs Lena Opoku-Brown, Mr Stephen Offei, Mr Andrew Tetteh, Mr Edwin Adika and Mr Francis Tetteh, all staff of the school and members of other sub committees. —GNA
