KETASCO ‘86 old students pledge to transform alma mater

The President of the 1986 year group of the Keta Senior High School (SHS), Dr Collins Tay, has reiterated the association’s commitment to support and transform the school into a formidable second-cycle institution.

He said his leadership represented a new dawn for the school to benefit from new ideas, initiatives and an open-door policy to ensure that the “1986 year group and the school”  experienced a new touch and feel.

“With the support of my able team and some of you, whose knowledgeable capacity will be relied on during my tenure, we shall form a number of committees with terms of reference (TOR) to address the various needs of an ageing group and our alma mater,” he stressed.

Dr Tay said this last Saturday at the swearing-in of the association’s new officers in Accra.

The executive also has as its Vice-President, Gertrude Sodji; the Secretary Daniel Akpaloo; the Assistant Secretary Ivy Jones Mensah; the Financial Secretary, Moses Ahiatsi; the Assistant Financial Secretary, Ivy Damalie; the Media/ Publicity Director, Timothy Gobah; the Organiser, Prince Ackuaku, and the Deputy Organiser, Theodora Dowetin at the swearing in.

Dr Tay noted that the group had gone through a rugged journey in the last couple of years, although it started well as a progressive year that blazed the storm and became the envy of the other year groups during its formative years.

“Regrettably, criticism and apathy set in along the line and the spirit of belonging sped away,” he lamented

However, Dr Tay stated that the team viewed the mantle as the symbol of a new journey ahead and a race to meet the expectations of the group and the school.

He also acknowledged that the past administration had implemented various policies, initiatives and projects that impacted members and the school and pledged that the team would strive to consolidate and build upon the gains made to ensure continuity, progress and the uplifting of the image of the group and their alma mater.

“I salute all my colleagues for accepting the positions they have individually been elected to, and make this clarion call to all of us to be up to the task and forge ahead, effortlessly, to make the ’86 year group a progressive one and a shining star again,” he added.

Advice

The Outgoing President, Henry Baye, recalled his journey as the head of the association and expressed his gratitude to his colleague executive and members for making his tenure a successful one.

He urged the incoming executive not to lose sight of the objective for creating the group, which was to, among others, create a platform to facilitate contributions to the welfare of Keta SHS and also help the national association in the development of the school.

Mr Baye advised them not to be discouraged because as leaders, they would always face hurdles and setbacks, adding that he would always be there to offer his help and expertise for the progress of the association.

“Everyone in this group has something to offer, so let us kill apathy,” he added.

The past executive, who mostly joined the ceremony via Zoom, also pledged the loyalty of the former executive and the support to the group and the new executive respectively and advised them to always work as a team.

The Chairperson of the school’s 70th Anniversary Planning Committee, Lawrence Morlemetor Avevor, who swore in the executives, advised them to view their new role as a service to all.

He challenged them to “hit the ground running” because they had lots of work to do with a limited time to do them.
