Hall, office complex for UEW Kumasi Campus
Two projects have been inaugurated for the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education of the College of Technology Education of the University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The projects are a 580-bed capacity hall of residence and an office complex comprising 32 offices and an auditorium.
The hall of residence was funded from the college’s share of the Autonomy Funds of the university, while the office complex was funded from the college’s internally generated fund (IGF). The projects are aimed at improving upon infrastructure to boost the development of the college.
The inauguration coincided with the joint matriculation for the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 Sandwich students.
Earlier in the day, there was a similar matriculation held at the College of Agriculture, Mampong Campus, to admit fresh students.
Speaking at these separate ceremonies, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, said it was essential for the university to establish linkages with relevant bodies.
Therefore the university had forged very strong and glowing relationship with a number of institutions and organisations, including the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, to boost education in the country.
He said the university recognised the challenges being faced by education administrators and mentioned teacher absenteeism, lateness, drunkenness, large class sizes and multi-grade classrooms as some of the problems affecting effective teaching and learning in schools.
He said to address these, “our educational setup needs a new breed of teachers who have the requisite knowledge and skills to bring about the needed transformation in our schools.”
He said the university, through effective collaboration with its partners, was optimistic to achieve the needed change in the development of the country’s education.
He said such partnership should ensure evidence-based policy formulation and implementation and that this had led to the introduction of Sandwich programmes in the various fields of study, including Masters in Educational Administration and Management, Human Rights Education, Mathematics and Science Education.
