Three faculties, which include the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Informatics and the Faculty of IT Business, enrolled a total of 555 students, with 440 males and 115 females.

The matriculation ceremony was held in Accra last Saturday to welcome the fresh students to the school.

Enrolment

A total of 192 students were enrolled in the Faculty of Business, 87 students were enrolled to pursue Diploma in Information Technology, with 24 students enrolled to pursue a four-year programme in BSc Telecom Engineering, while 10 students will pursue a top-up programme in BSc Telecom Engineering.

Thirty-two students will pursue BSc Computer Engineering, 142 will pursue a four-year programme in BSc Information Technology, while 68 will pursue a top-up programme in Information Technology.

The President of the Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC) in Accra, Prof. Osei Darkwa, urged the newly admitted students to take up the opportunities that were available to them in their education, stressing, “I invite you to take up the stewardship and challenge of a rich legacy of excellence.”

School’s approach

He said they were aware of the challenges that came with unemployment, hence the need to train students using a very practical approach that could make them stand on their own as well-trained entrepreneurs.

“We train students so that they make positive contributions to society, and that is why most of our programmes are driven by entrepreneurial studies,” he added.

Prof. Darkwa reminded the students that by the matriculation, they had become fully fledged members of the university, saying: “It is up to you to earn the honour of being an outstanding student of the university, and it is up to you to take charge of your education and to shape your future and destiny here at GTUC.”

He, therefore, advised the students to honour the sacrifices of their parents, guardians, family and friends by behaving responsibly and making the most of the extraordinary opportunity.
