The UCC has nurtured the EPUC and shared best practices so that the EPUC can become autonomous.

The Provost for Distance Learning Education of the UCC, Professor John Nelson Buah, made this known, when he addressed the seventh congregation of the EPUC during which 400 students graduated after they had studied various disciplines for four years.

The theme for the congregation was: “Developing Human Capacity in Support of Sustainable Development Goals”.

Set goals

“Our aim should be to train our students so that they are well-equipped to address any developmental challenges that confront our country and also be agents of change wherever they will find themselves. This is the task we cannot fail to accomplish and I hope the EPUC will live up to that responsibility”, Prof. Buah said.

He reminded the graduates that they were being ushered into a world of varied challenges and that a number of  uncertainties in the world and economic challenges exposed some nations to challenges with regard to the provision of jobs and dwindling incomes.

Prof Buah therefore, urged them to persevere, guard against complacency and focus on goals to enable them to survive the turbulent environment.

He said working towards various set goals in a sustainable manner for the well-being of humanity was a collective responsibility and the role of tertiary institutions in the achievement of these goals could not be overemphasised.

EPUC Council

A former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Henry Kofi Wampah, who is the acting Chairman of the EPUC Council, said with an enrolment of 54 students in 2008, the university now had 1,500 students; the university was moving steadily towards the fulfilment of its mandate and would soon attain ultimate excellence.

He asked the graduates to apply the knowledge they had gained at the university on the field and that the challenges they had faced as students would not end after their graduation because there were more challenges that would confront them in the world of work.

Dr Wampah advised the graduates to be creative, exhibit entrepreneurial skills in all their endeavours, be goal-conscious and ready to enhance their knowledge to be able to survive in the competitive world of work.

The President of the EPUC, Reverend Dr Cyril Fayose, said the university had planned to set up campuses at Hohoe,  in Accra and Bimbilla, adding that several agreements had been signed with foreign institutions for the delivery of e-learning and the setting up of a multimedia centre at the university.

He also said an agreement had been signed with the Volta Regional Association of Beekeepers to establish a beekeeping research institute at the Akoefe Campus.

In an address, the President of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Germany, Madam Edda Maria Bosse, said she was very impressed with the work of the EP Church and that Ghana was a wonderful country.

In an address read on his behalf, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo, suggested to the university authorities to set up a school of graduates studies to enable its graduates return to their alma mater for further studies.
