The project would include a 24-unit classroom block, a library, offices, Home Economics laboratory, staff common hall, computer and Science laboratory and a sick bay

The project, which is funded by Ecobank, would begin next month and be completed within a period of two years.

The ceremony was performed by the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana (ELCG), Rev. John Shadrack Donkoh and witnessed by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga Central Assembly, Mohammed Bashiru and the Chairman of the National Education Board of the ELCG, Daniel Amekudzi.

Present at the ceremony included representatives from Ecobank, the clergy, officials from the Ga Central assembly, teachers and members of the All Saint Lutheran Church School.

At the ceremony in Accra, Rev. Donkoh said it was critical for a country to educate its people to guarantee their contributions to national development.

He said the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana led by its board of directors was poised to provide opportunities that would ensure the construction of educational infrastructure in the major districts of the country.

"We believe an educated community will be a blessing to the entire country in the long run,” he said.

The Director of Lutheran Schools in Ghana, Joseph Bangam Lanbon, thanked Ecobank for their over 20 years of support to them to undertake various projects across the country.

In view of the project, he said all the relevant documentation had been completed, emphasising that the project would begin next month, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

“We have all the backing from the district assembly and we are hoping we won’t experience interruptions since all documentation have been completed to start the construction on the 1. 5-acre land,” he said.

Support

The MCE of Ga Central, Mr Bashiru, said the project was timely since the assembly was undertaking an exercise to elevate government schools within the municipality to improve education.

He commended the ELCG for the initiative and expressed the assembly’s support to see to the successful completion of the project.

Mr Bashiru indicated that as part of the assembly’s support, a 15 per cent discount of Gh¢71,000, which is the cost of the building permit, would be given.

The MCE added that engineers from the assembly would be directed to supervise the project for free, promising to present bags of cement towards the project.
