Dr Afeti is new Chairman of EPUC Council

A FORMER Principal of the then Ho Polytechnic (now Ho Technical University), Dr George Mawusi Afeti, was last week Friday inducted into office as the 13-member and Chairman of the Governing Council of the E.P. University College, Ho.


In that role, he will oversee the policies that govern the university college and provide the vision and strategic framework for the operation of the institution, for a four-year term.

He took over from Rev. Dr Setri Nyormi who served in that capacity for eight years.

A former Moderator of the EP Church, Ghana, Very Rev Yao Japhet Ledo, who performed the induction ceremony congratulated Dr Afeti on his new assignment, saying that the calling to serve as the Chairman of the Governing Council of EPUC was yet another opportunity for him to serve mankind and God, in the field of education, as he had done with distinction, for many years.


Dr Afeti is an engineering educator, technical and vocational education training (TVET) expert, tertiary education consultant, and mechanical engineer with more than 30 years of experience in academia.

A university teacher and an administrator, Dr Afeti is a professional engineering practitioner, serving at various times as an international consultant with the Word Bank, UNESCO, Africa Union and the African Development Bank, among other organisations.

He holds a BSc (Mechanical Engineering) degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Dr-Ing degree from the University of Paris VI.

Dr Afeti taught at KNUST, University of Toulon in France and was an Associate Professor and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in Nigeria.

For 13 years, he was the Principal of the then Ho Polytechnic, and for four years as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Dr Afeti is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Consultative Advisory Group of the World Bank’s Partnership for Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (PASAT), which seeks to build the research and innovation capacity of Africa’s higher education institutions in the field of applied sciences and technology.
