The Amansie West District Assembly has inched closer to establishing a District Education Endowment Fund to cater for needy, brilliant students in the district.

A committee set up by the assembly in July this year to prepare a detailed plan for the institution of the fund has presented its report to the assembly.

The endowment fund would be the first of its kind in the district.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr William Bediako Asante, told the Daily Graphic in an interview in Kumasi, that he received the committee’s report last Friday.

He said the assembly would soon put in place measures to implement the committee’s report so that citizens of the district would start benefiting from the scheme .

Consequently, the DCE gave the assurance that during his tenure, the district assembly would allocate the needed resources to advance the education sector.

Mr Asante, therefore, called for the support of the chiefs and people in that respect to make the scheme a reality.

Female education

Mr Asante said the education endowment fund would also put a premium on female education as many of them would be encouraged and supported to pursue education to the highest level.

The DCE thanked the committee members for their work and pledged the assembly’s support towards its implementation.

The committee was chaired by an educationist, Dr Kofi Afoakwa, and had other members such as Dr Stephen Baffour Adjei of the University of Education, Kumasi campus, Mr Michael Ampong, a media consultant, Nana Tabi Gyansah, Manso Kwabenaso chief, Ms Harriet Asante Mensah, Public Relations Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority(NHIA) in Amansie West, Mr Akwasi Antwi Prempeh, the secretary to the Committee, and Mr George Obeng Takyi of the University of Education, Kumasi Campus
