Accra Academy honours Nana Akuoko Sarpong
The Omanhene of Agogo Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, Nana Akuoko Sarpong, has charged the new governing board of Accra Academy to take decisions that will benefit the school rather than wait for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to direct it on what to do.

He also appealed to the board not to interfere with the management of the school since that could lead to a stalemate, which would be detrimental to the school’s progress. He also advised the board members to be proactive.
Nana Akuoko Sarpong made these remarks at a reception held by the management of Accra Academy at his residence to bid the old board, of which he was the chairman for eight years farewell, and to welcome the new board led by Mr Wilson Quartey Tei.
He praised the loyalty displayed by the Headmaster of the school, Mr Samuel Ofori-Adjei, since 2005 and commended his two assistants for their co-operation, which had seen the school rising to the level it had attained.
A former Minister of State in the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) government, Nana Sarpong, said democracy did not thrive on mediocrity and mentioned that before he and others were appointed ministers, they were told that they would be fired if they did not perform creditably.
In his remarks, Mr Ofori-Adjei said he was grateful for Nana Sarpong’s support since he (Mr Ofori-Adjei) was appointed the headmaster.
The new Chairman, Mr Tei, said it would be difficult for him to step into the shoes of Nana Sarpong but was confident that the spirit of Accra Academy would push the new board to continue the former board’s legacy.
He also said at the same time, it would also be difficult for any group to match the achievements of their predecessors and added that they would only try to emulate the former board’s good example.
Nana Akuoku Sarpong and the former board members were presented with citations and the headmaster announced that a hall was named after the Omanhene at the school’s recent speech-day.
Two other distinguished old boys, namely the late Peter Ala Adjetey, a former Speaker of Parliament, and the late Nana Wereko Ampem II, known in private life as Mr. E. N. Omaboe, a former Chief of Amanokrom and Gyasehene of Okuapemman and also a former Government Statistician, were also honoured posthumously.
