The items included packs of toilet rolls, tissues; boxes of face masks, a large quantity of hand sanitiser, examination gloves, gallons of antiseptic and heavy-duty washroom cleaner.

Others included stethoscopes, gallons of disinfectant, floor cleaners, bleach, rubbing alcohol, methylated spirits, packs of cotton wool and bags of water.

The gesture by the year group was part of activities to commemorate the 2023 Speech and Prize-giving Day of which the 1992 year group is the host.

The donation

At a brief ceremony, the President of the 1992 year group, Kwame Odoi-Danquah, explained that the objective of the donation was to support the operations of the polyclinic.

He said it was also to make a significant impact on society, adding, “This polyclinic was our first port of call when we require medical attention”.

Mr Odoi-Danquah was hopeful that the items would support the hospital in the control of infections and improve the hospitality and hygienic conditions of the polyclinic’s environment.

He said the group decided to use their turn this time around to give something back to the community that hosted them during their stay on campus.

“We will do other community services before the day on October 28,” he said.

Mr Odoi-Danquah acknowledged the effort of all members of the group, who assisted in numerous ways to make the donation possible.

Apart from the donation, he said, the year group was furnishing a five-unit classroom block that would be inaugurated on the day of the speech day.

The Senior Staff Midwives of the hospital, Linda Nyamekye, who received the items on behalf of the hospital, expressed gratitude to the old students.

“These are very important basic needs of every hospital and it would go a long way to cut down on the hospital’s cost,” she added.

Ms Nyamekye assured the team that the items would be efficiently used for the right purposes to the benefit of all who visited the hospital.

She noted that the hospital was in high need of support for other items such as an ambulance, radiant heater, and physical infrastructure, among other facilities, and urged other benevolent groups and institutions to come to the aid of the hospital.
