13th Ghana Higher Education Fair opens in Bolgatanga

The 13th Ghana Higher Education Fair dubbed “the Free SHS Edition” today [January 16,2020] opened in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

About five hundred Senior High School students in the region are attending the two-day event which is being held at the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (BOGISS).

The aim of the event is to help reduce decision making time among Senior High School students, as they make informed choices while stimulating growth and building capacity for the Higher Education Institutions.

As part of the event,some public and private universities,and other tertiary institutions mounted an exhibition stance to showcase to the students the various programmes and initiatives they can offer to the students upon completion of their senior high school course.

Highlights of the event also includes group and lecture interaction session between students and staff of the various universities and tertiary institutions.

The universities and tertiary institutions taking part in the event so far include the University of Education,Winneba, the Ghana Technology University College,the Valley View University,Regentropfen College of Applied Sciences at Kansoe, Namoo in the Bongo District and the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAG).

The event is being organised by I-Texon Ghana, a non-governmental organisation with focus on education. It is being supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service.

Coordinator

Briefing Graphic Online on the event, the Programme Coordinator of I-Texon Ghana,Mr Kwaku Kwateng indicated that the programme will be held in all the sixteen regions of Ghana with an aim to equip and empower many students who may seek admission into higher institutions of learning.

“Our efforts, we hope, would justify the investment being made in the free SHS programme,” he said.

Mr Kwateng explained that I-Texon Ghana has been at the forefront of the development of the Ghanaian Higher Education sector over a decade, pointing out that “Our annual flagship programmes, the Ghana Higher Education Fair has run for twelve years in all regions of the country."

He said in 2013, the organisation rolled out the Ghana International Education Fair event, now Study in Ghana programme with the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The aim of this event,he noted, is to allow institutions meet their international students’ targets to boost their revenue generation and change classroom dynamics.

“In 2016, an online portal was proposed by our institutional partners to make international students’ recruitment more affordable and streamlined; we thus developed Study in Ghana Portal (studyinghana.com.gh) with the aim of making Ghana where Africa educates its youth.

Some expressed their happiness about the event, describing the programme as “an eye opener for them", which will guide them to make informed choices in life.
