‘They Call Me Archie’ launched

That’s why a new book titled ‘They Call Me Archie: an Amazing Journey of Destiny,’ detailing the life and times of Mrs Rosina Acheampong, will definitely motivate and also provide encouragement and pleasure for keen readers.

Affectionately called Archie, Madam Acheampong has been associated with the Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast in the Central Region, as a teacher and headmistress for some 30 years.

After three years as the Assistant Headmistress, she took over leadership of the school as the first Ghanaian Headmistress after Mrs Howarth (nee Clarice Garnett) retired back to England in 1981.
Madam Acheampong maintained the established high standards of the school for 16 years until her retirement.

In his review of the book, President J. A. Kufuor wrote: “Her achievements make her singularly qualified to have produced this exceptional commentary about this fine Ghanaian second-cycle educational institution.

“Not only does this book make interesting reading; it also gives deep insights into the author and her experiences as one of Ghana’s influential and foremost educationists. It is, undoubtedly, a must-read!”
Biographies, autobiographies, memoirs and diaries often offer the most valuable lessons in life.

Published by DAkpabli& Associates, this 460-page autobiography celebrates not only the influential fairy-tale-life of a ‘Matriarch of Education’ but also the students, both present and past, of the Wesley Girls tradition.

“I owe it all to my brilliant girls, generations after generations of them. The desire to see them grow and succeed inspired me to do more,” said Madam Acheampong in a pre-launch interview monitored on Citi FM’s Breakfast Show.

The book project team included Prof. Akosua K. Darkwah, Dr Esi Ansah, Dr Nana Kofi Acheampong, Mrs Adwoa Essel and Mawuli Tsikata.

Today’s launch will bring the global Wesley Girls community together to spend time with their former trainer and tap deeply into her amazing wealth of experience.

“From the precocity of her childhood, her dance with life has been one amazing ball of faith … and chance. These captivating pages reel out the adventures of a pathfinder, a mould breaker and a pacesetter,” a blurb on the book indicated.

According to Ms Diana Seada of DAkpabli Publishing, the online launch will include readings and impressions about the new book as well as recollections from Madam Acheampong’s former students, teaching colleagues and admirers from across the world and from different schools too.

“It will be a cosy family hangout mixed with reconnections and learning and just pure nostalgic fun!”

“They Call Me Archie” is already available at booknook.store and Amazon globally.
