Mrs Marfo congratulating Okyeame Kwame as brand ambassador of Tod Teen Republic.

Boys need special attention too

The chief executive officer (CEO) of Tod-Teen Republic, a youth-focused non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mrs Ethel Marfo, has stressed the need for society to provide mentorship and direction for the boy-child.

This, the CEO said, was because the number of agencies and groups that advocated for the girl-child was overwhelming whereas none existed for the boy-child.

Mrs Marfo made these remarks at the launch of Junior Boys Mentoring Conference in Accra.

She argued that boys eventually grow into men and serve as an indispensable part of a healthy family.

Healthy families, she maintained, create robust communities that serve as the foundation for the advancement and improvement of the society.

“More boys than girls end up in crimes, in prison, on the street or die faster because there is nobody to provide guidance and mentorship to them,” she noted.

She explained that her NGO was focused on empowering and equipping the younger generation with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to tackle challenges as they come into contact with the outside world.

Mr Kwame Nsiah Apau, known in showbiz circles as Okyeame Kwame, was decorated as the brand ambassador of the NGO and his duty would include offering counselling services to some select boys, as well as providing mentoring for boys with musical potential.

“The Rap Dacta” as he is affectionately called, in an interview with The Mirror, said he was humbled by the honour bestowed on him and would dedicate his effort wholeheartedly to ensure the objectives of Tod-Teen Republic were fulfilled.

Citations were presented to outstanding and dedicated fathers, including Mr Akwasi Marfo, CEO of Atlas Rent – A – Car, and Ms Shirley Acquaah Harrison, the Director of Marketing, Graphic Communications Group Ltd, for her dedicated role as mother and father to her sons.
