Vera Osei-Bonsu honoured by GlobalWIIN
The founder of Start Right Nutrition and Eat Smart Foods, Mrs Vera Osei-Bonsu, has been honoured at this year’s Global Women Inventors & Innovators Network’s (GlobalWIIN) annual Conference & Awards Ceremony held in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Mrs Osei-Bonsu, an advocate for proper child nutrition, was given a special recognition award for her innovativeness in providing healthy meals for families and advocating for proper nutrition.
The natural cereals under her brands were celebrated as sustainable and healthy ways of feeding children.
Mrs Osei-Bonsu is not new to the child wellness space, as she has spent close to a decade blending different natural local produce and developing a wide range of healthy cereals for families.
Her initiative was borne out of her curiosity to identify local food ingredients and how to blend them into healthy meals for children.
She is the author of the first infant and toddler recipe book for Ghanaian children titled “Start Right”. In 2022, she rebranded the part of her company that produces baby foods as
Eat Smart Foods while Start Right Nutrition handles her advocacy on proper nutrition in children.
Although Ms Osei-Bonsu sells her products in many Mothercare shops around the country, she says her focus is not just on profit but on ensuring that babies are well-fed.
She has supported several malnourished babies in Ghana, especially in rural areas, and continues to give mothers and caregivers ideas for feeding their families.
On her social media platforms, she shares recipes for healthy meals prepared with local ingredients and tips on how to encourage children to eat well.
Mrs Osei-Bonsu’s recognition by GlobalWIIN was not her first international recognition, as she has been recognised by several local and international organisations and has also participated in different stakeholder engagements.
She, however, believes that the special recognition by GlobalWINN was exceptional because it also gave her the platform to interact and share experiences with other women in different businesses across the world.
