UEW graduands host first Prom Night

On September 3, 2023, graduands of the School of Communication and Media Studies, alias CoMSSA of the University of Education, Winneba, gathered for an unforgettable night to mark the end of their undergraduate journey.

The event, named "Prom Night," occurred at the Kings and Queens Lounge in Winneba, Central Region, and was the first of its kind to be organised.

It was brought to life by a group of dedicated graduands including Osarfo Samuel Kantanka, Badu Ibrahim Ahmed, Elizabeth Ghartey-Hanson and Justina Afedziwaa Otoo, with support from a lecturer in Strategic Communication, Ms Belinda Osei-Mensah.

The night saw in attendance a blend of students and lecturers from various disciplines within CoMSSA, thus Journalism, Strategic Communication and Development Communication .

Some faculty members who were in attendance included the former Pro-Vice Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, and his wife, Dr Mavis Amo-Mensah, who currently serves as the Head of the Department for Strategic Communication and Mr. Bismark Odum Sackey, a lecturer in Development Communication.

Adding to the thrill of the night were a series of engaging activities including witty word puns, challenging bottle-flipping contests, truth or dare, dance competitions and anonymous confessions.

To honour outstanding achievements and contributions, the event featured award presentations, acknowledging the talents and dedication of the students.

The award for most fashionable female and male students went to Sandra Esi Bentil and Samuel Awuni respectively while the award for most popular student went to Patrick Addae.

Also, Godfred Amoaful won the award for most hardworking student whereas Joseph Cudjoe grabbed the most obedient student award.

As the night unfolded, it transitioned into a jam session, with the graduands dancing into the early hours of Monday.

In a speech, the former Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Birikorang, commended the graduands for uniting in order to pull the event off.

“I had so much fun and do hope that the knowledge and experiences you have acquired over the past four years will equip you to face the journey ahead.

It is my prayer that you all become pioneers of your various fields, armed with the skills and passion to reshape the landscape of media and communication in Ghana,” he said.
