The Mirror, Volta Hotel treat patrons to ‘unforgettable’ weekend

The Mirror, Ghana’s leading weekend newspaper, has in collaboration with the Volta Hotel, Akosombo, operators of the Dodi Princess II vessel, organised the second edition of the exciting, family-friendly aqua sightseeing event, dubbed The Mirror/Dodi World Experience.

The event, which took place last Saturday, took 30 people to the Dodi Island, a 27-kilometre journey on the Volta Lake.

The event served as a platform for family and friends to bond and find new acquaintances through indoor games such as Ludo and Oware, as well as other entertainments such as live band music on the vessel, to while away the four-hour voyage.

Once they disembarked on the Dodi Island, the patrons had the opportunity to do various water sports such as water cycling and riding on the Volta Lake.

Background

The Mirror/Dodi world experience initiative forms part of the newspaper’s effort to promote internal tourism and throw light on some of the country’s tourist destinations to the rest of the world.

The cruise took four hours — two hours from the departure point to the Island and two hours back. The Dodi Princess II vessel has the capacity to carry 150 passengers.

Island

On the Dodi Island, operators of the vessel had set up a new menagerie (a farm park) where patrons aboard the vessel could have the opportunity to see the various species of animals.

Before departure, some crew members took turns to brief patrons on some safety and security tips.

The Leader of the Kings Anchor Band, Mr Joseph Kofi Asamoah, which played danceable and alluring tunes on the vessel, encouraged all Ghanaians to show interest in joining the cruise experience during their holidays, instead of travelling to other parts of the world for the same experience.

He briefed patrons on some historical facts about the Akosombo Dam, the Volta Lake and some of the settlements along the lake.

The events team from the Graphic Communications Group Limited also took the opportunity to introduce the new Graphic Online outlook, the Graphic NewsPlus app, to patrons.

The team also assisted many of them to install the app to enable them to access the company’s various brands of newspapers and Graphic Online, at their convenience.
