Mama Rita was appreciated for her dedication towards women and children, and her social intervention programmes in many communities.

She is the president and founder of the Royal Ladies Ministries,  a women organisation and the wife of the Apostle General of the Royalhouse Chapel International, Rev Sam Korankye Ankrah.

The model mother campaign was initiated by The Mirror to celebrate an ideal mother, who will be a mentor and an encouragement to the society on Mother's Day.

This year's event was sponsored by Oak Plaza Hotel, Woodin, SIC Life, McVities and Ashfoam.

Mama Rita who has travelled outside of Ghana for an assignment was represented by her family and some of her church members including members of the Royal Ladies International.

Her family took home a double decker fridge and GH¢2000 shopping voucher from Ashfoam.

Receiving the items, her son, Paapa Korankye Ankrah thanked GCGL and The Mirror team for the honour, saying "she has been doing these things for years. Mothering and rolling out initiatives to impact lives. There are many mothers who have not been appreciated or honoured for the things they have done. This year is going to be one of the best years of the Mirror Model Mother campaign".

As part of her roles as the current Mirror Model Mother, she will be involved in outreach and mentorship programmes, counselling, medical and family life initiative organised by GCGL.

There were lucky dip giveaways for attendants, food, drinks, music  and the occasion was graced by some management members and staff of GCGL including the Director Marketing,  Mr Franklin Sowa, Graphic Showbiz Editor, Ms Adwoa Serwaa Bonsu.

In her address, The Editor of The Mirror Ms Doreen Hammond said the focus of the newspaper is women "and for that matter mothers, because they play a very critical role in the sustenance of life and the family".

It is a well known fact that mother's make a lot of sacrifices to bring up their children, explaining that "mother's and mother figures deserve appreciation for the invaluable role they have been playing in society, especially, in the lives of children."

She said it was in this regard to honour such unique mother's that The Mirror launched the Mirror Model campaign in 2019.

In a video accepting the honour as the Mirror Model Mother for year 2022, Mama Rita said she would be embarking on a lot of social intervention programmes to impact the lives of women and the family as a whole.

She indicated that though it was important to celebrate mother's, there was the need to bond with children to facilitate a good relationship when they become adults.

"Take good care of your children. Because they grow up so quickly so if u don't nurture your relationships with them they will grow up and you can't have a chat with them. In being a mom don't ever forget your role in being a wife, so you will be able to  enjoy your friendship with your spouse" she added.

When he took his turn to address the gathering, the Director of Marketing at GCGL, Mr Franklin Sowa said the whole idea of the model is to raise future leaders who will become better mothers for the society and for generations to come.
