Grandfather in court for defiling granddaughter
A 70-YEAR-OLD farmer at Adaklu-Kpodzi in the Volta Region, John Kpobi, who allegedly had sex with his 12-year-old granddaughter, was, last week Monday, arraigned before the Ho Circuit for defilement.

The court, presided over by the Mr Felix Datsomor, was told that the accused carried out the sexual act on the girl on two occasions.
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Noah Kwame Amuzu said sometime in November last year, the alleged victim’s mother travelled from Adaklu-Kpodzi to Accra, leaving the alleged victim in the care of the accused, who is the child’s grandfather.
The court further heard that the girl’s mother was away for two weeks.
Defilment
During the period, the old man took advantage of the absence of the girl’s mother and had sex with her twice.
The girl, the prosecution said, narrated the ordeal she suffered at the hands of Kpobi to her mother as soon as she returned from Accra.
Subsequently, the girl’s mother reported the case to police in Adaklu-Waya, after which the girl was sent to a health facility for medical examination.
DOVVSU
Based on the findings from the medical examination, Kpobi was arrested and handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Ho, where he was charged with the offence.
Kpobi, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with three sureties.
However, he was unable to execute the bail bond, and was escorted back into police custody.
