You struggle with issues such as what type of tie goes with the spread of your shirt collar, the physical build of your body, the function you will attend,  among other factors.  What with over 80 different types of knots for ties this can be confusing. However there are four distinct types of knots which are in current and constant use.

The availability of different knots makes it possible to match the spread to your shirt collar to the knot that will suit it.

When choosing to pair a shirt with a tie, it is important that the right choice of knot be made in line with the width size or spread of the collar of your shirt.

So we can say that a wide spread should go with an equally large knot to balance out the spread of the shirt. While a button down shirt or narrow width collar will go with a small or medium knot.

There are three basic factors that affect the choice of a tie knot, the physic or body frame of the wearer, the spread of the collar or width of the collar and lastly the type of material the tie has been made with.

Let’s examine the four distinct knots types and learn as well the art of tying  the knot right.

Moreover, with the holiday season around the ladies would love a dude who really knows his tie knots well. It will definitely catch you a well-earned date.

The four in hand knot

The first tie knot we want to take a look at is the four in hand knot

This is a quick alternative for those who are not keen on going through the rudiments and the time it takes to make a Windsor knot.

It is ideal for light textured shirts and narrow collar shirts as well as button down shirts. The asymmetric style of this knot does not make it suitable for wide collar shirts.

How to tie a four in hand knot

1.Start by placing your tie under the collar of your shirt. Remember the inseam of your tie should be facing down. The wider end of your tie should hang much lower than the narrow end.  Let’s say between 5-6 inches lower.

2.Next you place the wide end over the narrow end and wrap it around the narrow tie.

3. Holding the wide end with two fingers, wrap the wide end all the way around the narrow end as shown in step 3. Do not pull tight but create a loop on top the unfinished knot.

4. Next you pull the wide end in between the tie and your collar and then bring it down and then pull through the loop you created in step 3

5. Finally gently pull the knot tight, ensuring that the knot is centered, and flip it down the shirt’s collars. Voila!
