Effective meal planning cuts cost – Nutritionist

In an interview with The Mirror in Accra to commemorate this year’s World Food Day, he explained that when food was prepared in bulk, unit cost is lowered.
“It also reduces the stress of cooking every day, especially with people who do not get home early after their daily hustle to survive,” he indicated.

Touching on the excessive intake of energy drinks and sugar sweetened drinks, Mr Letsa explained that that could lead to the risk of obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol, since it is loaded with high calories that consumers hardly burn.
He encouraged the public to eat breakfast before 8 a.m. since it is the best time of the day to have a first meal.

Dr Letsa explained that the concept of eating healthy involved getting the right kind of food. One that delivers all the six food nutrients to the consumer. “It also includes eating at the right time and eating food in the right portions.”
WFP report

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), 10 per cent of the over 828 million people around the world went to bed hungry every night.
The global food crisis is currently affecting the world at large and pushing many to the verge of starvation.

The WFP further indicated that adults around the globe suffered due to the lack of healthy food, while the case of children gets severe every day as they are young and need good nutrition to survive.
It also noted that lack of food had sent many into vulnerable states such as childhood marriage (as girls are offered into marriage arrangements for dowries that can feed their families), life-threatening illnesses, armed robbery, gender-based violence, child labour and even death.

World Food Day is a day commemorated by the United Nations as part of its Sustainable Development Goal 2 (zero hunger) to draw attention to the plight of the hungry, raise awareness, remind everyone that hunger can be ended, and the need to eat mindfully. Food is seen as a basic human right and not as a privilege.
