President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Julius Kuunuor Aalebkure, as acting Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in pursuant to section 18 (1) of the Ghana National Fire Service Act, 1997 (Act 537).
He takes over from Mr Edwin Ekow Blankson, who is currently indisposed.
In a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, his appointment took effect from Thursday, October 7, 2021.
Mr Aalebkure was born on April 12, 1962. He hails from Nandom in the Upper West Region.
He was enlisted into the GNFS on November 1, 1992 as a cadet officer.
He rose through the ranks as an operational firefighter to his current position.
He is a graduate of the Institute of Fire Engineers UK and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the GIMPA.
Mr Aalebkure assumes the position with knowledge and experience in the service.
Prior to his appointment, he had been the Director of Administration and Finance of the GNFS since October 2016 to date.
He was the director of operations from February 2017 to August 2017, Director, Fire Safety – July 2016 to November 2016 and Director of Human Resource and Development, October 2015 to December 2016.
Mr Aalebkure was also the Instructor/Administrative Officer at the Fire Academy Training School (FATS) between 1998 and 2004.
His hobbies are sports, singing and reading.
