In these COVID days, one needs such natural remedies to bolster our health.

It was Dr Yaw Mfodjo of Ohene Cocoa who first impressed me with the prowess of the cocoa tree.

The whole tree seems to be a health giver, much like the palm tree.

From the leaves to every aspect of the fruit.

From cocoa, for instance, you can get the powder which can be used in making drinks, the nibs, which is full of antioxidants for the boosting job, husk which is good as fertiliser and on and on and on...

So, now, beyond buying chocolate from Dekocraft, or Ohene, or Cocoa Processing to enjoy for pleasure or health, I know my money also goes a long way to help local Ghanaian farmers.

I like that now there are entrepreneurs who are giving our materials staying power and adding to their value chain.

See, Bioko Treats, for example, has experimented with everything edible and has also recently launched a peanut butter and Gari mix milk chocolate!

Pretty incredible, huh! I think it is! Gari, that's like a double whammy for boosting our economy, because not only will this exciting successful idea buy more cocoa and make our cocoa farmers rich, but our cassava farmers too! Smile.

So eat chocolate made by the new Ghanaian companies that are championing Ghanaian products.

Speaking of which.

Have you heard of the upcoming National Travel & Tourism Month, Ghana, the event being organised by our sister paper, Graphic Traveller, which seeks to be part of the efforts to encourage Ghanaians to patronise what is ours, protect our most vulnerable heritage, safeguard jobs and grow our economy!

The month-long event will be a virtual hub packed with thrilling discounts and coupons for freebies from participating locally loved stores, street food vendors and restaurants, domestic tour operators, and hotels.

Happening between July 15 and August 15, 2020, as a virtual travel event, it is the vision of 'Do Ghana' which has been at the forefront of the domestic tourism movement since 2015, being behind the experiential WangoWango adventures.

It is an event to help local tourism players get back on their feet, as we restart tourism in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

We need to build confidence in our tourism and, cautiously, start travelling, at least, domestically, again in order to keep our economy going.

Many hotels and restaurants have reopened and had strict physical distancing protocols in place.

Do book a ‘staycation’ and enjoy what your country has to offer! Enjoy.
