Only pupils who commuted to school between Lome and Aflao and frontier residents who had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 were allowed to freely cross the border.

That, notwithstanding, a few of the hawkers were able to stretch their hands over the border to sell edible items to customers at the Togo side without crossing it.

Some of them told The Mirror that the opening of the border would definitely boost their livelihood, which invariably is cross-border trade.
