In the senior category Anna Sarfo Nantwi of the World Links Academy and Janet O. Addey of the Firmons Montessori School placed second and third respectively.

The winners received GH¢1,000 each  and those who place second and third had GH¢500 and GH¢300 each.Their parents took the awards on their behalf due to COVID-19.

Other participants were presented  with certificates of participation and consolation prizes.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Director of GhLA, Mr Samson Osenda, Head of School and College Libraries Department, said the challenge  was an initiative of the GhLA as part of its COVID 19 interventions aimed at engaging students to arouse their creativity in writing.

He said he was happy with the number of entries received but disappointed at the  number of male entries and entreated them to write.

Mr Osenda also encouraged  girls  to read Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) which was perceived to be male dominated.

He indicated that all the  promising stories  would be published on the GhLA App for other children to read.

“Whether your story was selected or not do not rest and do not be discouraged too. Use this opportunity to sharpen your skills because all of you have a bright future”, he added.

The chairperson of the jury for the writing challenge, Dr Mary Ashun, stated that selecting the winners was not easy as stories received were delightful and fascinating.

EPP Books and Smartline supported the challenge.

The contest was launched in April  this year and received 766 entries across the country.
