Talk to Auntie Betty: My friends don’t talk to each other

Dear Auntie Betty, I am a 10-year-old girl in Class Five in one of the private schools in Accra. I have two friends, a boy  and a girl, who do not speak to each other.

Whenever our mates are having fun and one of them is part of the group the other stays away. I have tried my best to make them  talk to each other but it has not worked. How can I bring them together since they are my friends?

Dear Agyeiwaa, You are a good friend  for trying to make your two friends be at peace with each other.  Their behaviour is making you feel uncomfortable and you don’t know who you should be with. You have to know what brought about the rift between them.

You have to talk to them separately to figure out what the problem is. That will put you in a better position to help them iron out their differences for them to reconcile without delving too much into who went wrong and who is right or wrong.

Tell them to forget about their differences and join in all the fun so that they can both enjoy being with their friends at school.
If after that they still can’t forgive each other, then you can approach your school counsellor or a teacher to assist you. All the best.
