A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Myrtle Eagle International (MEI), has organised a youth summit to provide the platform for senior high school (SHS) students to brainstorm and come up with new ideas to help develop their careers.
The summit brought together students from the St Augustine’s College, St Margaret Senior High School, Keta Senior High School, Accra Academy and Accra High School, among many others.
Addressing the students, the Chief Executive Officer of the MEI, Ms Yvonne T. Aggrey, observed that very often, SHS students found it difficult to identify the right information needed to help them build their careers.
She said the summit was an opportunity for students to get the right information to build a career of their choice.
She pointed out that some “students choose to make friends and have fun at school without focusing on the right information to help them build upon their career.”
Speaking on the theme “Personal rebranding”, Mr John Osei Tutu Agyeman, the Programmes Manager of eTV Ghana, said students’ inability to achieve their goals after school was because of the way society handled them.
Mr Agyeman explained that students could be successful in their careers if they knew how to communicate in public, appear smart always, spend limited time with friends and set specific targets.
He added that putting those steps into practice would enable students to have adequate information on how to become great leaders and contribute to the development of the country.
He, therefore, advised students to develop a passion for the careers they choose and rebrand their lives.
