The St James Junior High School, a Catholic basic institution in Sunyani, has organised its maiden graduation and handing-over of the mantle of leadership at a ceremony in the school.
Seventy-one JHS Three students graduated from the school, while the outgoing prefects also handed over leadership to the incoming prefects.
The ceremony attracted parents of the graduating class, the clergy and a section of the public who were treated to cultural displays by the school’s cultural troupe, as well as choreography by the Creative Minds Group.
The theme for the day was: “Basic Education, a gateway to greater heights and academic excellence”.
Addressing the students, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Theresah Oppong Kyeremaa, said the Catholic Church provided holistic education for students, with focus on good moral training, punctuality, neatness, respect and the fear of God.
“We as a school promise to do our best to uplift the standard of education in the Sunyani municipality,” she said, and called on parents to provide their children with the needed materials and financial support.
In his farewell speech, the outgoing School Prefect, Master Adams Razak, said he and his team had played their part and left their footprints in the school for others to follow.
“As we leave, we hope to excel in our final examination in order to continue to climb the academic ladder and lift the flag of this great school high wherever we go,” he said.
The new School Prefect, Master Enock Kwesi Ameyaw, gave the assurance that prefects would put in measures to ensure discipline and respect for all in the school.
“Serious academic work will be our priority and this can be achieved through hard work, discipline, respect for authority and adherence to time,” he said, and called on the entire student body to support them to succeed.
