Rotary Club donates to schools in Shama

The Rotary Club of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region has donated assorted items to three deprived basic schools in the Shama District as its contribution towards the wellbeing of the pupils.

The items presented to the Anapansu D/A Junior High School (JHS), Abotarye T. I. Ahmadiyya Kindergarten (KG)/Primary School and the Essumankrom Islamic KG/Primary School, included a quantity of Veronica buckets, tables, exercise books, hand towels and liquid soaps.

The decision to donate the items followed a needs-assessment tour made by the club to those deprived schools, about 10 kilometres off the Shama-Junction-Cape Coast road.

The President of the club, Mr Eugene Ofori-Atta, explained that it was a routine programme for members of the club to look for deprived schools, communities and other establishments within their operational area of the club every year for which they could extend their benevolence.

He said the tour of the schools revealed that they lacked those items, especially running water for washing hands to keep them safe from germs after attending to the call of nature and engaging in other unhealthy activities.

The Chief of Essumankrom, Mr Ahmed Dauda and the headteacher of the Essumankrom Islamic KG/Primary School, who jointly received the items, thanked members of the club for the gesture and gave an assurance that they would be used for their intended purposes.
