Eighty students from the Queensland International School (QIS) near Lashibi in the Tema Metropolis have embarked on a one-day trip to Ada Foah in the Dangme East District to interact with pupils at the Azizanya D/C Primary School.
The visit, which formed part of the mid-term programme of the school, was intended to forge links and relationships for the mutual benefit of the two schools.
The pupils from QIS, who were accompanied by their headmaster, Mr Joseph Saki-Venyor, and six teachers; Messrs Adotei Ayikwei-Awulley, Emmanuel Kofi Boateng, Phillip K. Habada, Augustine Owusu-Awuah and Moses Akwetey Abbey as well as Mrs Irene Saki Venyor, interacted with their counterparts from the Azizanya Primary through various outdoor games.
The objective of the trip was also to enable the pupils to learn about local architecture and the occupation of the people of the town and visit places of interest such as the Ada Songhor Lagoon site to learn about salt production.
The visiting pupils presented gifts including textbooks, exercise books, story books, school uniforms, school bags, jerseys, footballs, old and new clothing which were collected through their own initiative to the Azizanya D/C Primary School.
A donation of insecticide treated mosquito nets was made to the Azizanya community through the Chief of the town, Nene Kabu Akrofi Soli.
The Headmaster of QIS, Mr Joseph Saki-Venyor, who led the pupils, explained that the idea of the initiative was to expose the pupils to life in coastal towns, make new friends and share experiences.
He said the pupils would be encouraged to keep communicating with the Azizanya D/C Primary School pupils to maintain the relationship between the two institutions to ensure continuous sharing of knowledge and experiences.
The Assistant Headmaster of the Azizanya D/C Primary School, Mr Abdul Razak-Darou, lauded the initiative and added that it would expose the pupils in the town to their mates from the urban areas and motivate them to aspire to achieve high academic levels.
At the end of their visit, one of the pupils of QIS, Ms Emmanuella Evangeline Esseku, described the trip as very educative.
