The Patson Early Childhood Development Centre at North Kaneshie in Accra has held its annual graduation and Speech and Prize-giving Day on the theme: “The Relevance of Preschool Education in the 21st Century.”
The Proprietress of the centre, Mrs Patience Dickson, said her motivation for providing early childhood education stemmed from her love to teach children at a very tender age.
Mrs Dickson added that she also wanted to impact into the younger generation what God had blessed her with and that it was her duty to do so as a parent.
Ms Alberta Osei-Tutu, who chaired the function, said preschool education was very important because it inculcated good moral values into children.
Preschool education, she said, also helped children to learn how to do things by themselves.
She added that parents should guide and support their children, and advised the children to learn how to say ‘ thank you: I am sorry and please’, especially to the elderly.
A former Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Mrs Akosua Adu, urged parents to monitor their children when it came to the use of the Internet and information and communications technology (ICT) gadgets.
