Lebanese Community sponsors free distribution of Junior Graphic to deprived schools

Making the donation, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Ali Halabi, said the Lebanese Community was inspired by the objectives of the Junior Graphic in the education of schoolchildren, especially the initiative to distribute free copies of the paper to deprived communities.

Mr Halabi stated that the Lebanese Community in Ghana was committed to assisting the education of children and young people throughout the country, pointing out that many students in Ghana had benefitted from a scholarship scheme instituted by the community.

Receiving the cheque, the Editor of the Junior Graphic, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, stated that the GCGL, as part of its corporate social responsibility, had over the years subsidised the price of the paper to make it affordable to children.

She said although the paper was sold at a subsidised price, many students could still not afford to purchase copies and pledged the company’s commitment to distribute the paper to as many children as possible.

Mrs Kitcher commended the Lebanese Community for the donation and gave the assurance that the money would be used to distribute free copies of the paper to children in deprived schools.

In her address, the Director of Marketing of the GCGL, Ms Shirley Acquah-Harrison, acknowledged the need to invest in the education of children and called on other organisations to support the project.
