As part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Kumasi High School (KUHIS), the old students association has handed over a 20-bed capacity infirmary to the staff and management of the school.
The project which cost Gh¢21,000 was sponsored by the old students as part of development activities of their alma mater as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
It would serve both students of the school as well as people from the nearby communities.
Handing over the facility to the management of the school, the President of the old students association, Mr Peter Owusu-Mensah, said their decision to construct the infirmary was due to the increasing number of students in the school coupled with the distance between the school and health facilities in the area.
He pledged the association’s support towards the development of the school and urged the students to be disciplined at all times and concentrate on their education which held the key to their future development.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Michael Oppong Yeboah, expressed gratitude to the association for its support and urged the members to continue to aid in the development of the school.
On the school’s academic performance, the headmaster said the school had within the past seven years recorded 100 per cent passes in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) and to maintain the record, management of the school had put in place measures to ensure that the students used their time prudently.
The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mr Kofi Sarfo Kantanka, who chaired the function, commended the staff and management of KUHIS for the feat chalked and urged them to strive to perform even better.
He called on all stakeholders in the education sector to contribute their quota towards the development of education in the region and the country.
