Parents urged to pay attention to the activities their wards engage in on the Internet

Keep children safe online

The Executive Director of J. Initiate, Mrs Awo Aidam Amenyah, has called on parents to pay attention to the activities their wards engage in on the Internet.

According to her, the Internet could be of great benefit to children, as it can help in their education, communication, social management and entertainment, but they must be guided.

She said teachers should also help by guiding their students to stay safe online.

Mrs Amenyah was speaking during a ceremony to mark this year’s The Safer Internet Day (SID) in Accra. SID was celebrated on the theme: ’’Be the Change: Unite for a Better Internet.”

She said the theme was more of a call to duty which she gladly embraced to contribute in making the Internet better.

The Chief of Agormeda, Nene Nagai Kasa VIII, who chaired the function, said: ‘’It was important that children were guided with regard to the use of the Internet.

He called on the media to create awareness and educate children about staying safe online.

 

The Manager of Ghana Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-GH), Mr Eric Akumiah, advised children to be very careful when putting their personal addresses such as telephone numbers, dates of birth, house addresses and other personal information online.
