How to prepare well for the BECE

Every stage of human life is crucial and as you move from one stage to another you will face challenges. Indeed life is full of challenges and those who work hard to overcome their challenges will obtain the crown of success.

That is life!  As  a baby you struggle to sit up, crawl, walk and later run all over the place at home. In the beginning when you watch a baby go through these stages it is quite difficult  but after some time  the difficulty wanes and it becomes enjoyable.

The beginning of every new thing is difficult but with determination and perseverance you  become equal to the task. For most of you as the time for  the BECE,  your first external exam, approaches,  shivers go down your spine. Although examination is dreadful for both the young and old, you should not allow your fears to get the better part of you but confront  the exams with  all   seriousness   in  order to excel.

Know that your life depends largely on  this exam since in life, education is the key to your independence and success because without it, it  would be difficult for you to progress. Your  grades will reflect the hard work that you have put in your studies throughout your years in school. That is why you have to invest your time and energy in it in order to perform well.

Make sure you have fully prepared for the exam. If there is anything you  do not understand, it’s best to ask your teachers for help. Do so immediately and do not procrastinate.

You need to get all the necessary requirements  such as pencils, pens, Maths sets and calculators, if it is allowed, and keep them ready for the D-day. You should not wait till the last minute before you look for these things.

Do something that's going to make you feel alive and positive, and it will increase your confidence level. You can read the Bible to give you inspiration within 24 hours before the exam.

Please, stay away from caffeine and energy drinks!  If you depend on these, you can become nervous and that will make your hands shake so that you might get confused  in the middle of the test.

Experts say eight hours rest is ideal for the night before an exam. "It may be tempting to stay up late studying, but remember: you will need energy and focus while you're writing the exam.

You don’t have to depend on ‘apo’. Those who do that get disappointed and frustrated in the end. Rather tip the areas you think are likely to come and study them seriously. But read over  all your notes.

How to get to the exam centre

You should figure out how to get to the exam  centre before the day of the exam. Since we are in the rainy season, you need an umbrella or raincoat and a convenient means of transport to the centre.

If your centre is far from your house and you have a relative living nearby, you can inform your parents so that you can stay with him or her if possible to enable you get to the centre on time.

Supposing you are going in a group to the centre, you have to wake up early so you don't miss the vehicle that is transporting you because if you do, you might get to the centre late and that can affect you in the exam.

Do not take any foreign material to the examination hall which could put you and your mates at risk. This could destroy all that you have toiled for since primary school because if you are caught, your paper will be cancelled.

You have survived many exams in the past and you will this time too. If you're feeling nervous when you sit down to write the test, take three slow, steady breaths. Remind yourself that you have been getting ready for the  test all year long and you are going to do your best.

Read over the instructions and questions carefully before you start answering them.

Answer the easy ones first so you do not waste too much time on the difficult ones.

Always read over your work to correct all the mistakes when you have enough time.

What to do after every exam

Don't hang around after the exam; do well to go back home early, catch some sleep and prepare for the next day.

Attach all seriousness  to every paper as you progress and you will definitely come out with flying colours. You can do it so make yourself and parents proud. All the best.
