Help, my teacher likes to touch my cheeks

Dear Auntie Betty, For some time now, a female teacher has been blowing kisses and touching my cheeks.

I feel very uncomfortable and have on several occasions told the teacher to stop but to no avail.

What should I do?

Stunned Boy,
Accra.

Dear Stunned Boy, You would have to tell your parents and also report immediately to a teacher you trust so that he or she can talk to the teacher to put a stop to it.

This is a form of harassment and must not be allowed to continue. It is also possible your school has rules and guidelines on what to do in such an instance so that the right thing will be done.

Your teacher may think she is just being ‘nice’ or ‘caring’ but so far as she is making you feel uncomfortable, she must put a stop to it.

I am also glad you did not keep quiet about her actions but asked her to stop.

It is important that young people can pick up signals or actions of adults or people in authority which do not augur well and speak up.

Although your teacher has put you in an uncomfortable position, I suggest you do not allow that to dampen your spirit or to make you hostile, but develop a positive attitude towards her.

You have to respect her because it is important to have a healthy and positive relationship with your teacher(s).

A healthy and positive teacher-student relationship will boost your confidence, encourage you to participate effectively in school activities, and also improve on your academic performance.

Therefore, it is necessary that both teachers and students operate in an environment that is safe and improves the learning potential of each student.
