The Tema Metropolitan Assembly has distributed 2,970 school uniforms to pupils in 41 basic schools in deprived communities in the metropolis.
The distribution formed part of the government’s nationwide free school uniforms programme.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Isaac Ashia Odamtten, in the company of the Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, Mrs Veronica Adzato-Ntem, and other Ghana Education Service directors visited the Tema Manhean Community Primary, Community Seven 1 and 2 Primary, Republic Road 1 and 2 Primary, Sakumono TMA Primary and Sakumono Estates Complex Primary School where the uniforms were handed over to the pupils.
Presenting the uniforms to the schoolchildren at separate ceremonies in Tema, Mr Odamtten said about 3,000 uniforms would be distributed to schools which had pupils with either tattered uniforms or wore house dresses to school because they had no uniforms.
Mr Odamtten advised the pupils to study hard in order to achieve their dreams of becoming responsible adults in the future.
He advised the children to take good care of the uniforms so that they would be able to use it for a longer period.
The MCE also said the assembly had announced bids for the supply of 5,000 dual desks which would be distributed to schools to reduce the deficit in furniture in schools in the metropolis.
At the Sakumono Estates Complex Primary School, the MCE, who was impressed with the comportment of the pupils, promised to have the assembly repaint the school block.
