“We are planning to form energy clubs in schools, especially those in Accra West,” the Public Relations Officer of the Accra West Region of the ECG, Mr William Asante, said.

He explained that when the clubs were formed, the company would go to the schools with its engineers to educate the students on issues related to energy.

“We will educate them mainly on electricity usage, its effects, benefits and the harm it can cause to people. With this, I believe children will learn a lot about electricity,” he noted.

The aim, he said, was to make children aware of the benefits and dangers associated with electricity usage, since they formed the most vulnerable group in society.

Mr Asante said details of the programme on the formation of the clubs, their membership and the selection of the schools would be made public once the proposal to set up the clubs had been completed and approved by the management of the ECG.

Once successful, he said, the initiative would be replicated in other regions where the ECG operated because energy conservation was vital to the development of the nation.
