The Northern Zonal Business Manager of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Bala Sa-ed, has admonished students not only to focus on achieving high academic grades but develop good attitudes as well.
He explained that although it was good for all students to aim at obtaining good grades in school, it was also important that they balance such desires with good attitudes.
He said good attitudes and discipline would enable anyone, particularly students, to excel academically and achieve their goals in life and added that most successful academicians were people who made discipline part of their lives.
Mr Bala was speaking at a seminar organised by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale in the Northern Region to mark the SRC Week celebrations.
It was on the theme: “Good communication: A key to academic excellence.”
Touching on the theme, Mr Bala said good communication skills was not only about one’s ability to demonstrate oral prowess but the manner in which a person carried himself during communication.
He said many people often paid little attention to their body gestures during communication and explained that “your body language tells a lot about your personality when communicating with someone”.
He also urged the students to be positive thinkers and noted that successful people “are people with positive mindsets”.
He, therefore, challenged the students to see themselves as problem solvers in their generation and added that, “you can overcome your challenges when you have a positive mind towards it”.
The Assistant Headmaster of the school in charge of Administration, Mr Mohammed Zakaria, advised the students to develop a positive attitude and communication skills in their pursuit for academic excellence.
